HELEN SMOOT
ADA-Services for Helen M. Smoot, 93, of Ada, are 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Chaplains Tim Jones and Jeremy Parham will officiate. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Coalgate Cemetery.
Mrs. Smoot died Monday, October 8, 2012 at her home. She was born March 8, 1919 in Centrahoma, Oklahoma to Alva and Lizzie Mae Napier Rice. She attended Nixon school in Coal County and lived in Coal County most of her life.
She married Tom Smoot on September 1, 1935. He preceded her in death on June 23, 1958. Helen worked at Wrangler's, Hudson's Big Country Store, several retail stores and was the County Clerk for Coal County from 1968 until 1976. She retired in 1980. She moved to Ada in 2001 from Coalgate. Mrs. Smoot was a member of Cottonwood Baptist Church.
Survivors include her children, Billy Joe Smoot and wife Luella, Latta, Jim Smoot, Schulter, and Carolyn Whiteley, of the home; 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; and one brother, A. C. Rice, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Gladys Johnson Rice; her husband; and a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy Eugene Smoot and Joyce Smoot, and six brothers and sisters.
