HELEN BORDERS
ALLEN-Services for Helen Rae Borders, 71, of Allen are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ in Allen, Keith Warren will officiate. Burial will follow at Allen Cemetery. Friends may call at the Allen Chapel from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday.
Mrs. Borders died Thursday, September 25, 2014 at a Holdenville nursing home. She was born August 30, 1943 in Haywood, Oklahoma to R. T. and Margie Smith Firestone. She attended Haywood schools and also received degrees from East Central University in Education and Home Economics.
She married R. W. James Borders on May 26, 1964 in Haywood. They made their home in Duncan and later Allen. He preceded her in death on December 8, 1994. Mrs. Borders taught at elementary school in Duncan for 3 years and then at the Allen Public Schools for 29 years before retiring. She taught Junior High Language, Reading, Arts and Crafts and a few years of Home Economics in High School. Mrs. Borders was a longtime member of the Allen Church of Christ, a member of Pi Kappa Theta Sorority, the Oklahoma Educators Association and the National Educators Association. She was an Allen 4-H Leader and a community seamstress and costume maker.
Survivors include a son, Roger Wade Borders of Allen; a daughter-in-law, Bernadine Borders of Allen; a daughter, Shannon Rae Wofford and her husband, Shawn of Allen; her grandchildren, Selina Binder and husband Eric, Abby Borders, Becca Borders, Taryn Wofford and Tanner Wofford and; her great granddaughters, Gabriella Binder and McKaelynn Binder; a sister and brother-in-law, Joy and Kent Paskins, Ogden, UT; brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Pearl Hammonds, Duncan, Gerri and Dave O'Brien, Arizona, W. B. and Loretta Borders, Ada, Marion and Louise Borders, Sulphur; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Trey Wofford.
Bearers will be Robbie Harrigton, Phillip Harrington, Kenny Nickell, Kevin Borders, Shawn Wofford, Tanner Wofford and Eric Binder. Honorary bearers will be Glenn Harrington, Jerry Edwards, Joe Hudson, Donny Johnson, Eugene Sanders, James Arnold, Bruce Ragsdale and Hank Deaton.
