Heck Phares

Services for Hector Howard "Heck" Phares, 99, of Newark, TX, formerly of Ada are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 3, 2020 at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Bro. Mike Bolden will officiate. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Stonewall.

Mr. Phares passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at a Carrollton, TX hospital. He was born November 20, 1920 in Velma, OK to Thomas and Nettie Fitts Phares. He attended Velma schools. Mr. Phares was a former longtime Ada area resident.

Mr. Phares was a farmer of cotton, wheat and tomatoes, had worked as a truckdriver and had also worked in the oilfields. He was a member of Newark, TX Church of Christ. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid OU Sooners Football fan.

Survivors include a son, Sammy Phares, Ft. Worth, TX; daughter, Kathy Rider, Grapevine, TX; a brother, Jack Phares, Eufaula, OK; his grandchildren, Shawn Phares, Newark, TX, Mandy Lynn Smalling, Grapevine, TX and Robert James Smalling, Centralia, WA; five great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Rachel, Iva, Esther, Barbara, Lorene and Bill.

Bearers will be Shawn Phares, Jimmy Davis, Billy Phares, Neil Turnbow and Jack Phares.
