HAROLD WINGARD
FITZHUGH-Services for Harold Gene Wingard, 79, Fitzhugh, are 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Covenant Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Revs. Linda Snelling, Steve Wilburn, and Charles Nordean will officiate. Burial will follow at East Hill Cemetery in Roff. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mr. Wingard died Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was born March 23, 1929 at Ada, Oklahoma to J. C. "Tobe" and Rubye Nordean Wingard. He attended Laxton and Fitzhugh elementary schools and graduated from Ada High School in 1948. He graduated from Oklahoma A & M, which is now Oklahoma State University in 1956.
He married Velta McDonald on January 22, 1956 at Stillwater, Oklahoma. Mr. Wingard was a farmer and rancher. He operated Wingard Dairy for 28 years and operated Wingard Hog Farm for 13 years. He was a member of Covenant Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 35 years where he served as an Elder in the church. He was a member of the Associated Milk Producers for 28 years, serving as a board member for 12 years. He was a member of the Ada Water Resource Board and the East Hill Cemetery Association. He served as Mayor of Fitzhugh and was a member of the Fitzhugh Council. He was instrumental in the construction of the Fitzhugh Community Center and storm shelter, and he and his family was the Farm Bureau "Farm Family of the Year" in 1984. He also served as a precinct official for the Pontotoc County Election Board. Mr. Wingard served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife, Velta McDonald Wingard, of the home; three daughters, Lynda Roberts and husband Chuck, Fitzhugh, Sharon Phillips, Fitzhugh, and Donna Silva and husband Din, Coalinga, CA; a son, John Wingard, Fitzhugh; three grandchildren, Megan Roberts, Michael Roberts, and Ricky Joe Phillips; a brother, O. D. Wingard and wife Neva, Glenpool; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bearers will be Gene Neill, Joe Bradshaw, James Treas, Larry Young, Randy Davidson, and Maurice Brashears. Honorary bearers will be Larry Little, Joe Lovelace, Bob Bennett, Charles Morrow, Ray Quiett, Roger Strong, Jim Brown, and Russell Howerton.
