Harold "Burr" Harris
Funeral services for Harold E. "Burr" Harris of Ada, are 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at the Central Church of Christ, JR Smith and Bud Ross will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 29 at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mr. Harris was born on July 6, 1931 to Virgil Harris and Birtie Lee Harris in Stonewall, OK. He passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, July 25, 2024 surrounded by his family.
He grew up in Fittstown and Harden City, OK. He attended school in Harden City and McLish. He was a member of the 45th Division of the Oklahoma National Guard and served in the Korean War.
He and Peggy Large eloped to Mena, AR on May 6, 1953. They were married 71 years and were longtime faithful members of the Central Church of Christ in Ada.
Mr. Harris retired from Sun Oil Co. in 1985. He was an avid fisherman, loved bird hunting, working on small engines and enjoyed keeping the neighborhood bicycles and go carts in good working order.
His home away from home was Lake Texoma where he enjoyed many fishing trips, family vacations, reunions and birthday celebrations.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Birtie Harris; his brothers, Herschel Lee, Wendell Harris, Escue Harris and Bill Harris.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy of the home; daughter, Patti Haberthur and husband Mike of Perryton, TX; son, Terry Harris of Hot Springs, AR; grandchildren, Kurt Haberthur and Delma of Gruver, TX, Kaci Schwalk and Jarrod of Perryton, TX; Austin Harris and Rich Hill of Dallas, TX and Reyden Harris and Blaine Greenwood of Fort Worth, TX; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many treasured friendships.
Bearers will be Kurt Haberthur, Jarrod Schwalk, Jake Schwalk, Austin Harris, Reyden Harris and Steven Floyd. Honorary bearers are Bill Nelson, Riley Young, Bennie Cope, Morris McGehee, Kent Hamilton and Allen Butler.
Memorials can be made to Central Bible Academy or Compassion Outreach Center at the Central Church of Christ, 820 Stadium Dr., Ada, OK 74820.
