H.V. SMITH

FRANCIS-Services for Horton Van Smith, 88, Francis, are 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Abundant Life Church of Ada, Revs. Robert Pettijohn and George Carson will officiate. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Smith was born January 16, 1920 at Francis, OK, to Horton V. and Jenny L. Poe Smith. He attended Francis schools.

He married Iantha A. Rainbolt on October 15, 1941 at Ada. She preceded him in death in September of 2005. Mr. Smith worked for the Frisco Railroad for 39 years and served as a locomotive engineer, he retired in January of 1980. He formerly served as a Deacon with the Cedar Grove Free Will Baptist Church, and he was a member of Shepherds Chapel. H. V. was one of the founding organizers of the Cedar Grove Cemetery and was on the board of directors for 40 years. He was also a member of the Good Sam's Club. Mr. Smith also served in the US Navy.

Survivors include a son, Ronnie Smith and wife Donna, Francis; a sister, Liz Chandler, Francis; two brothers, Glen Smith, Sulphur, and Jim Smith, San Antonio, TX; three grandchildren; Laura Smith, Francis, Donald Smith and wife Jeanne, Houston, TX, and Erica Mills Lee and husband Davy, Guam; and one great-grandson, Sammy Lee, Guam.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Iantha A. Rainbolt, and two daughters, Sharon Smith and Candy Smith Mills.

Bearers are Glenn Walker, Darrell Phillips, Tommy Chaffin, Sam Townsend, Gil Smith and Donald Smith.
