FITTSTOWN-Services for Grace Maxine Veach Downs, 87, of Fittstown are 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Chris Brannon and Mr. Marvin Mitchell will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Ada. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. Monday until service time at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Downs died Thursday, November 21, 2013 at her home. She was born September 15, 1926 in Milburn, Oklahoma to Hollan and Nannie Chester Veach. At the age of fourteen she moved with her parents to the farm northeast of Ada. Grace attended Byng High School, graduating in 1944.
She married Booth Downs on December 7, 1946 in Ada. He preceded her in death on November 20, 2008. They were married for 62 years. During her working career, Grace was employed with Ada Auto Supply, Bowie Ballard Ford, Kay's Fashions, Holiday Inn, and McCortney Drug. She was a member of the Fittstown First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sisters, Lorene Anderson, Broken Arrow, and Leatrice Bouse and her husband Fred of College Station, TX; a brother, James Veach, Del City, OK; numerous nephews; one niece; many great nieces and nephews; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law.
The family says those who wish may make memorials to the Children's Hospital Volunteers, Oklahoma Children's Hospital, 1200 Everett Drive, Oklahoma City, OK 73104, where Booth Downs was hospitalized for long periods of time when he was a child.
