GLADYS MORGAN
ADA-Services for Gladys Mae Jones Morgan, 94, Ada, are 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Dr. George Warren will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Morgan died Sunday, January 25, 2009 at a local hospital. She was born March 21, 1914 in Oklahoma to Rev. John Marion and Ora Myrtle McGuire Jones. Her father was a Methodist minister and the family lived in numerous towns across Oklahoma. She graduated from Delhi High School and obtained her BS from East Central State College in Ada with majors in Business and Spanish.
She married Louis L. Morgan on July 26, 1940 and would have celebrated 69 years of marriage in July. Mrs. Morgan taught in two states and many school districts. She taught in Albany, OK; Odessa High School, Odessa, TX; Permian High School, Odessa, TX; Roff, OK, Abilene, TX and retired from the Byng school district in 1979. During World War II, Gladys was a vocational instructor for the Federal Government and early in her career she coached girls' competitive basketball. She was a member of the Roff United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included golf, dancing and gardening.
Survivors include her husband, Louis L. Morgan, of the home; one sister, Elva Cole, Lincoln, CA; one brother, John Jones, Stillwater, OK; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Gary Alan Morgan in 1949, her brothers, Glenn and Lowell Jones, and sisters, Ruth Davis, Willie Nell Jones and Rubye McCan.
