George Wermersen

George William Wermersen, affectionately known as “Cody,” 78, passed away on September 1, 2026, at Ballard Nursing Home in Ada, Oklahoma.

George was born on January 10, 1948, in Miller, South Dakota, to Kenneth Eugene Wermersen and Marian Katherine (Glover) Wermersen.

Cody was known for his stubborn streak, his sense of humor, and his love of the cowboy way of life. He loved horses, roping, and just about anything that had to do with cowboys. A talented craftsman who enjoyed working with his hands, he especially enjoyed building tack and saddles. He also liked playing guitar.

Animals held a special place in Cody’s life, particularly the many dogs he had throughout the years. His horses, dogs, craftsmanship, music, and love of all things Western were an important part of who he was.

He was the father of two daughters, Michelle (Jim) Stephens of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Melissa (Jesse) Klapperich of Brandon, South Dakota. He was also a grandfather to five grandchildren and a great-grandfather to four great-grandchildren.

George is also survived by his sister, Pati Jo (Arden) Pederson of Rosemount, Minnesota; brothers, Kim (Deanna) Wermersen of Okoboji, Iowa, and Rick Wermersen of Pierre, South Dakota; his special friend Vicki Coy; along with his nieces and nephews and extended family and others who knew him throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Marian Wermersen.

Cody lived life in his own way. He will be remembered for his humor and stubborn nature, his love of horses and dogs, his craftsmanship, and a lifelong appreciation for the cowboy way of life.
