Gene Whelchel

Graveside services for Earl Eugene (Gene) Whelchel, 75, of Ada are 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 30, 2020 at Pontotoc Cemetery, Bro. Randy Golden will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Criswell Funeral Home.

Mr. Whelchel passed away Monday, October 26, 2020 at his home. He was born October 6, 1945 at Ada to Earl Leonard and Viola Mae Peppers Whelchel. He attended Pontotoc grade school and McLish and Byng High Schools.

Mr. Whelchel worked for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, retiring as a Construction Inspector. He served in the Oklahoma National Guard from 1963 – 1969. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Whelchel enjoyed metal detecting, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include son, Tony Whelchel, Ada; daughter, Amy Whelchel, Ada; grandson whom he raised, Daniel Whelchel, Ada; other grandchildren, Adrianna Delozier, Will Whelchel, and Emiley Whelchel, all of Ada; sister, Doris Timmons, Oklahoma City; brother, Bill Whelchel, Connerville; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ethel Burden, and brother, Joe Whelchel.

Bearers will be Lenny Timmons, Sonny Vivier, Bruce Dansby, and Hershel Allen.
