ADA-Services for Gene Evans, 83, of Ada, are 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, Rev. David L. Daniel will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.
Mr. Evans died Thursday, January 10, 2013 at his home. He was born January 31, 1929 in Ada, Oklahoma to Harry and Mary Helen Wood Evans. He attended Washington grade school and graduated from Ada High School. He also attended East Central University.
He married DaMarr Pierce on September 11, 1955. She preceded him in death on November 26, 2011. Mr. Evans was the former owner of Evans Hardware, one of Ada's oldest businesses. He sold the business in 1981. Mr. Evans was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a former member of the Jaycee's and was an avid bull rider and bronc rider. He served as the first president of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ada and was a charter member. He and other members of the Kiwanis Club were instrumental in building the carousel and the train rides at Wintersmith Park. Mr. Evans served in the National Guard, and later served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Later, he was a Commanding Officer of the Army Reserve.
Survivors include a daughter, Marianne Evans of Falls Church, VA; a son, Harry Gene Evans and wife Leslee of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Phyllis Henry and husband Bill, Oklahoma City, and Betty Bayless and husband Dick, Ft. Worth, TX; and three grandchildren, Harrison, Sarah and Matthew Evans of Atlanta.
Bearers will be Zane Bowman, Bob Cristelli, Billy Rice, James Treas, Trovall Pipkin and Mac McKee.
The family says those who wish may make memorials to the First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 566, Ada, OK 74821; or the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ada for Wintersmith Park improvements.
