Obituary

Gaylord Brown

On December 20, 2019, Gaylord Mitchell Brown went to his heavenly home. Born in Wetumka, Oklahoma, on January 17, 1932, to Howard and Ludie Mae Brown, he was preceded in death by his mother, father, step-father and 11 siblings.

He is survived by his wife, Gay Brown, of the home; his son, Gaylord Mitchell Brown, Jr. and his wife Madeline of Canyon Country, CA; his daughter, Nancy Hobbs and her husband Edward of Ada, OK; his sister, Paulette Spillers of Ada, OK; and his sister, Debbie Coker of Yuma, AZ. He is also survived by six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.

He passed away peacefully after a rapid illness at Glenwood Nursing Home in Glenpool, OK.

Gaylord spent much of his young adult life in California working in the produce market and distribution. He lived in Ada from 1974 until his death. He was the founder, owner, and operator of G.G. Western Wear in Ada for nearly 30 years. He became an expert boot and leather repairman during the years at his business.

By far the most wonderful piece of Gaylord's life was his Lord Jesus. He was middle-aged before he accepted Jesus as his Savior. Until his death he remained awed that Jesus would have saved his soul; he never felt worthy of God's gift and remained humble in the face of His love.

His devotion to and love of his children and grandchildren afforded them with security and opportunities. He was generous and supportive. Always a lover of babies (and dogs!), he was blessed unmeasurably by every little one born into his legacy. Known to be witty and a great storyteller, he will be missed by all who loved him.

Though tended by Criswell Funeral Home, at Gaylord's insistence there will be no funeral or memorial service planned.

The family will welcome visitors Saturday, December 28, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the home (16812 Cr 1517, Ada). For any unable to visit, your prayers are appreciated.
