GARY HORTON
ROFF-Services for Gary Delaney Horton, 66, of Roff are 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Seth Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow at Lightning Ridge Cemetery near Roff.
Mr. Horton died Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at a Shawnee hospital. He was born August 13, 1946 in Ada, Oklahoma to Woodrow and Corrine Scott Horton. He grew up in the Owl Creek Community near Stonewall. He played baseball in high school and graduated from Stonewall High School in 1964.
Mr. Horton was a pipe welder, but had spent the last 20 years working in law enforcement as a Peace Officer in western Oklahoma. He was a hunter and fisherman and had started writing poetry after he retired. His first poem, "A Letter from Heaven" was written the day of the Oklahoma City bombing. Mr. Horton was a member of the Lightning Ridge Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Gimlin, of the home; two sons, Gary Dean Horton and Jason Delaney Henson, both of Enid; two daughters, Tonya Horton of Enid and Dayla Sanders of Perry; three step-sons, Josh and Jason Gimlin of Forks, WA and Jacob Gimlin of Roff; a step-daughter, Sarah Herring of Quincy, WA; a sister, Joyce Walston of Ada; his grandchildren, Devin Horton, Damon Horton, Chandace Callender Withrow, Blake Sanders, Maddox Sanders, McKayla Henson, Jazmine Henson and Jayda Henson; his great grandchildren, Chloe Withrow, Xoe Withrow, Ava Withrow and Delaney Horton; and two little dogs, "Paco" and "Mel".
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Jeanene Looney.
Bearers will be Gary Dean Horton, Jason Henson, Devin Horton, Damon Horton, Troy Sanders and Rick Callender.
