FAYE HOUGAS
MCALESTER- Services for Faye Louise Hougas, 91, formerly of Ada, are 2 p.m. Sunday at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Carl Hayes will officiate. A private burial will be held Monday at Rosedale Cemetery.
Mrs. Hougas died Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, at a McAlester care center. She was born Feb. 15, 1923, in Muskogee to Cecil Destin Purkey and Lorena Davis Purkey. She graduated in 1942 from Central High School in Muskogee and attended Draughn's Business College in Tulsa. She enlisted in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) in November 1944 and served until April 1948. She served in San Francisco, Washington D.C. and the Army occupation in Germany. Mrs. Hougas was a civil service employee in Okinawa from 1956 to 1958 and had been a homemaker since that time.
She and Master Sgt. Dale Hougas were married July 4, 1947, in Garmisch, Germany. He preceded her in death July 18, 2009.
Survivors include two daughters, Toni Lamb and husband Mike of Tyler, Texas and Terry Zellmer and husband George of McAlester; one brother, Cecil Purkey of Georgetown, Texas; four grandchildren, Brigette Jones of Ada, Mandy Powell of Tyler, Texas, Kimberly Zellmer of Newalla and Grant Zellmer of Anna, Texas; eight great-grandchildren, Caleb Caldwell of Oklahoma City, Kelsey Wingo and Cooper Wingo of Ada, Lauren Powell, Megan Powell, Addy Powel, Jayme Powell and Jordy Powell of Tyler, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, a step-sister, a step-brother and grandson Jared Lamb.
The family says those who wish may make donations to Hospice of McAlester, 801 E. Wyandotte Ave., McAlester, OK, 74502.
