Obituary

ADA-Services for Gene Howe Davis, 88, of Ada, are 2:00 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church, Rev. Harold Ware will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. The Ft. Sill Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Criswell Funeral Home.

Mr. Davis died Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at a Sulphur Veterans Center. He was born October 28, 1925 in Ada, Oklahoma to Early J. and Lottie Elizabeth Gorham Davis. He attended Latta and Hayes grade schools and graduated from Ada High School in 1944. He attended Life Underwriters Training Council and numerous industries courses in management and sales. Mr. Davis had lived in California, Oklahoma City, Norman, Stillwater before returning to Ada in 1980.

He married Hirameta June Land on March 5, 1949 in Reno, Nevada. She preceded him in death on February 16, 2001. He later married Dolores Leemhuis on March 21, 2003. Mr. Davis was a supervisor and manager for American General Life Insurance Company until his retirement. He was a longtime active member of the First Baptist Church and served as an ordained deacon in churches both in Del City and Stillwater. He served as a board member of several Christian organizations. He was a member of the Gideon's International and the American Legion. Mr. Davis was a volunteer for Valley View Regional Hospital for over 10 years.

Mr. Davis served in the U. S. Coast Guard and the Merchant Marines from October 1944 until being honorably discharged in August 1945.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores Leemhuis Davis, of the home; two sons, Randy Eugene Davis and wife Cindy of Dallas, TX, and Britt Lane Davis and wife Kayleen of Broken Arrow; a sister, Loretta Dean Cantrell of Eufaula; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Hirameta June Davis; his brothers, Tarzan Davis, Paul Davis and Dariel Davis; and two sisters, Barbara and Joan.

Bearers will be Carl Gilley, Mel Haworth, David Gray, Jerry Wells, Ronnie Powell and Jim Scrivner. Honorary bearers will be Jerry Wells Sunday School Class members.

The family says those who wish may make memorials to The Gideon Memorial Bible Chairman, P. O. Box 1821, Ada, OK 74821-1821.
