ESSIE DAVIS

ADA-Services for Essie Jane Davis, 93, Ada, are 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Minister Theresa Ray will officiate. Burial will follow at Lightning Ridge Cemetery.

Mrs. Davis died Thursday, November 19, 2009 at her home. She was born January 14, 1916 at Jackson, Mississippi to Marion and Maggie Pounders Collum. She and her family moved to this area in 1922 from Mississippi. She attended Maud grade school and graduated from Maud High School.

She married Homer Davis on January 13, 1933 in Sulphur, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on March 28, 1981 in Roff. Mrs. Davis was a nurse's aide at Valley View Regional Hospital until her retirement. She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include two sons, John Davis and wife Loni, Garland, Texas and Homer Lee Davis Jr. and wife Jayne, Galveston, Texas; four daughters, Rita Webb and husband Dale, Ruidoso, NM, Jeanie Magar and husband Ronnie, Ada, Vicky Cheek and husband Larry, Ardmore, and Sheila Davis, Ada; one brother, Leroy Collum, Sherman, TX; three sisters, Audrey Stout, Oklahoma City, Mavis Kirk, Pickett-Center, and Nolene Percell, Oklahoma City; 24 grandchildren; and many great and great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Billy Ray Davis and daughters, Wanda Houck, Linda Wheeler and Janie Garrett, sisters, Ruby Stone, Lola Sims, Beulah Cook and Erma Lee Hignight, a brother, Grady Collum and a grandson, Michael Roundtree.

Bearers will be Neil Cheek, Glen Cheek, Kenny Roberts, Aaron Lamb, Mark Copeland and Derrick Lindsey.
