Elmer F. Gerth
Services for Elmer F. Gerth, 88, of Ada are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Southwest Church of Christ, Danny Stewart will officiate. Burial will follow at Hickory Cemetery south of Roff.
Mr. Gerth passed away Sunday, May 24, 2020 at his home. He was born June 5, 1931 at Sentinel, OK to William Elmer and Jewell Frances Smith Gerth. He attended Latta grade school and graduated from Hickory High School. He received a Bachelor's from East Central University and Master's degrees from East Central University and the University of Oklahoma.
He married Betty J. Bettis July 29, 1954 in Ada. Mr. Gerth was an Educator having taught at Tulsa Union from 1956 – 1960; Hickory from 1960 – 1965; and Latta from 1965 until retiring in 1990 as the High School Principal. Mr. Gerth was a longtime active member and Deacon of Southwest Church of Christ. He was the overseer at the Golden Doers annual fish fry, active with the Yellow House Ministry and he was also involved with the Pontotoc County Retired Educators Association. Elmer enjoyed travelling, camping, fishing, hunting and spending time with the love of his life. Mr. Gerth served in the U. S. Navy from 1950 – 1954.
Survivors include his wife, Betty, of the home; a son, Cary Gerth and wife Judy; two daughters, Sharon Estes and husband Scott and Joni Vass and husband Tommy; his grandchildren, Jessica Rosalez and husband Roman, Creston Gerth and wife Jessica, Sarah Stewart and husband Scott, Caleb Estes and wife Randi, Trevin Vass and wife Anna and Taran Williams and husband Jake; 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Loyce Gerth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-granddaughter, Emma Stewart; and a brother, Bill Gerth.
Bearers will be Creston Gerth, Caleb Estes, Trevin Vass, Roman Rosalez, Scott Stewart and Jake Williams.
The family says those who wish may make memorials to the Haitians Orphan Home, c/o Southwest Church of Christ, 505 West 17 th , Ada, OK 74820.
