Ellis "Pete" Fortner
Services for Ellis "Pete" Fortner, 69, of Lula are 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Rocky Point Missionary Baptist Church at Lula, Rev. David Wayne Fortner will officiate. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mr. Fortner passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at a Shawnee hospital. He was born November 23, 1946 at Lula to J. M. and Beatrice Vera Brooks Fortner. He attended Lula grade school and graduated from Tupelo High School. He received a Bachelor's and Master's Degree from East Central University in Ada.
He married Frances Jean Frazier January 24, 1974 at Union Valley. Mr. Fortner was a teacher, coach and counselor for the Ahloso and Stonewall schools. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Frances, of the home; a son, Travis Fortner and wife Terri of Ringling; a grandson, Brogan Timmons; two brothers, Kenneth Fortner and wife Pat of Lula and David Fortner and wife Paula of Canton, TX; a sister, Joy Faught and husband Glen of Ardmore; many nieces, nephews and cousins; an aunt, Doris Teel of Springdale, AR; and an uncle, Wayne Brooks of Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Patsy Young; and a brother, Dennis Fortner.
Bearers will be Scott Fortner, Brad Fortner, Kenny Fortner, Clay Young, Brogan Timmons and Tim Glase. Honorary bearers will be Bill Saint, Stanton Atkins, Gerald Timmons, Larry Whisenhunt and Charles Hudson.
