Eldis G. "Pud" Wood

Services for Eldis G. "Pud" Wood, 84, of Ada, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at the First Methodist Church in Ada. Reverends Steve Dighton, Zac Christian, and Brian Matthews will officiate.

He passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, July 27, 2025. He was born August 24, 1940, in Galey, Oklahoma, to James Mitchell and Minnie Lee Jones Wood.

Pud was a graduate of Horace Mann High School (Ada, OK) and East Central University, and he served in the Oklahoma National Guard. He married the love of his life, Letha Sherman, on February 2, 1963, in Ada. Together they built a beautiful life full of faith, family, and friendships. Pud was a member of First Methodist Church in Ada.

After college, Pud began a career in underground pipeline construction. In 1989, he took a break from construction and spent several years at Southern Oklahoma Livestock Auction (SOLA). From there, he accepted a position in governmental sales at Kirby Smith Machinery where he worked the past 30 plus years.

To know Pud was to love him. He had a heart as big as his smile and never met a stranger. Whether he was on the golf course, fishing with his family and friends, or enjoying a cocktail, he did everything with kindness, humility, and joy. He was a man of warmth, laughter, and loyalty and gave the best hugs. Pud was the kind of person everyone felt lucky to know.

Above all, Pud was devoted to his family. He is survived by his wife, Letha, and their daughters; Scottie Coker and husband Shane; and Shannon Wood and partner Jason Carter. He was the proud Poppa of Marleigh Shirtum and husband Caleb, Mayme McClure, Blakelee Carter, and Carson Scarber and husband Corbin.

Pud was preceded in death by his parents; special aunt, Edith Blevins; brother, Connie Wood; sister, Sandra Sinclair; and sister and brother-in-law, Lynda and Forest Simpson.

Honorary Bearers will be Joe and Brenda Landrum, Jon and Barbie Moon, Ed and Gay Kirby, and his Homebuilders Sunday School Class.

One of Pud's greatest joys was Ada Cougar Athletics and more specifically Ada Cougar Baseball. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to his favorite team, Ada Cougar Baseball, in care of Christie Jennings, 1400 Stadium Drive, Ada, OK 74820.
