ELBERN COOPER

ADA-Services for Elbern Kenneth Cooper, 83, Ada, are 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Morris Memorial Baptist Church, Rev. Gary Jamar will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery.

Mr. Cooper died Thursday, March 18, 2010 at a local nursing home. He was born January 4, 1927 at Ada, Oklahoma to Homer Franklin and Sophronia Alice Dew Cooper. He attended Latta schools and graduated from Latta High School.

He married Wilma Dean Cleghorn on September 28, 1945. Mr. Cooper was employed with Swanson Heat and Air and later retired from Holcim Cement Plant. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone. He worked with an Army Intelligence Unit in Panama and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sargeant. He was a longtime active member of Morris Memorial Baptist Church where he taught the Junior High Boys Sunday School Class. He and his wife were active in the Latta athletics activities, and he was an avid sportsman.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Dean Cooper, of the home; a daughter, Rebecca Myers and husband Tommy, Ada; a son, Kenneth Cooper and wife Barbara, Richmond, TX; four grandchildren, Amanda Hightower and husband Carl, Lauren Bucy and husband Jayson, Samantha Wilbanks and husband Coby, and Damon Eisler and wife Sarah; and two great grandchildren, KerVon James and Ashlyn Bucy.

Bearers will be Tommy Myers, Wayne Cooper, Carl Hightower, Jayson Bucy, Ronny Mitchusson, and Danny James. Honorary bearers will be Coby Wilbanks, Terry James, Gary Christopher, Ted Abney, Phil Shivers, A. L. Swanson, James Abbott, Efton Duyck, L. D. Scott, Mac McKee, Chris Flowers, Jackie Aday, Bill Osborne, and the Holcim Cement Employees.
