ELBA JEAN LATHAM
ADA-Services for Elba Jean Norwood Latham, 90, of Ada, are 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Ada Church of the Nazarene, Rev. Jim Knight will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.
Mrs. Latham died Friday, February 28, 2014 at a local care center. She was born September 1, 1923 in Hugo, Oklahoma to John Edward and Cora Evelyn Weddington Cox. She and her family moved to Ada in 1929 from Hugo. She attended Ada grade school and graduated from Ada High School in 1941.
She married Calvin Norwood on August 31, 1941 in Ada. He preceded her in death on May 13, 1958 in Vernon, Texas. Mrs. Norwood moved back to Ada in 1958 and worked for Katz Department Store as a bookkeeper. She was also a dental assistant for Dr. James A. Thomas for about 15 years. She later married Zack Latham on July 1, 1975 in Ada. He preceded her in death on January 6, 2000. Mrs. Latham was a longtime active member of the Ada Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include a daughter, Janet Myers and her husband Arvie of Ada; a son, Garry and Rocky Norwood of Spring, TX; step-son, Larry Latham and wife Linda of Grove, OK; two sisters, Mary Evelyn Miller and husband George of Bethany, OK and Lee Ann Duyck and husband Afton of Plano, TX; a brother, John R. Cox and wife Dorothy of Oklahoma City; a granddaughter, Mandy Martin and husband Jason of Conway, AR; 6 step-grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and 5 step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a step-daughter, Jo Ann Conway.
Bearers will be Jerry Meek, George Hanson, John David Hanson, Darrell Langwell, Kent Lee and Fred Allen. Honorary bearers will be her nephews, Larry Duyck, Leland Duyck, Lanny Duyck, Lyle Duyck, Eddie Miller, John David Miller, Bobby Miller and Brian Cox.
