Obituary

Edwina Braxton

Edwina Braxton was born Edwina Fern Muse on September 25, 1939, in Allen Oklahoma. She died of complications of Alpha 1 disease in the comfort of her home on May 21, 2026, at the age of 86. She is survived by her son Carter Braxton, his wife Kyleen Stevenson-Braxton, and by her grandchildren Pete, Maria, and Isaiah Braxton and Annalee Braxton. She was preceded in death by her husband Lee Braxton and her eldest son Glen. She is also preceded in death by her parents Edgar and Carrie Muse, and sisters Illowyn, Mary Alice, Emma Lou, and Lola Vermel. Her graveside service will be held in Allen, OK on June 1st at 12:00pm with a viewing beginning at 10:30 at the Criswell Chapel in Allen. The funeral will be followed by a small reception at her house in Ada.

Edwina grew up in Allen, and by most accounts led a fairly rambunctious childhood climbing trees, playing basketball in school and running her parents ragged. She graduated from Allen High School in 1957, and within a couple of years had met and married Lee Braxton. They soon had their first son, Glen in 1960, and then Carter following in 1964. They spent most of the boy’s childhood in Bethany, Oklahoma where Lee worked for S&H Shade Co and sold insurance, and in later years worked in the oilfield while Edwina stayed home working heroically to corral the two rambunctious in their own right boys.

They moved to Ada in ‘79 so that Lee could be closer to work and was tragically diagnosed with cancer shortly after. Edwina stayed by his side caring for his every need until he passed in 1987.

Edwina was kind to everyone, and much like her mother never had a bad word to say about any (though some may say she might have thought it once or twice). She was an avid reader, and enjoyed her solitude at her home working in her flower beds. She loved watching the Sooners play football, and much to the perplexity of her son, Edwina became a loyal and devoted fan of the OKC Thunder. She was a passionate Weather Channel watcher, and could carry discourse on the Nimbus and Cumulus with meteorological precision. She was a longtime member of the Elks lodge in Ada where she loved dancing with the Healthy Hearts ladies and having epic card games with her friends in the lodge. These relationships she had with her cardplaying and dancing friends were deep and cherished, and she will be missed by all.

She is forever in our hearts until we see her again in heaven.
