EDWIN FURNESS

STONEWALL-Services for Edwin Earl "Ed" Furness, 87, Stonewall are 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Stonewall Free Will Baptist Church, Rev. Earl Hood will officiate. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday at the fellowship hall of the Free Will Baptist Church in Stonewall.

Mr. Furness died Thursday, October 29, 2009 at a Stonewall nursing home. He was born May 16, 1922 in Kinde, Michigan to Thomas and Olive Souva Furness. He completed the 9th grade before he had to delay his education to work the family farm.

He married Alice Humphreys in June, 1943. He later married Treda Harris Reese on December 31, 1959 in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Furness had various occupations including small businessman, truck driver, carpenter, ranch hand, mechanic and environmental refuse/recycle expert. He was competitive with dominoes and card games. He was a former member of the "Michigan Hayride" of Flint, Michigan, playing harmonica. He volunteered many hours as a Little League Coach, leading his team to the Tri-County Pony League Championship trophy in 1976. He also played and coached adult Blooper Ball. He was a member of the Union Valley Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Treda; his children, Doreen Owens and husband Dave, Dearborn, Michigan, Edwin Furness, Louisville, Kentucky, Brenda Papkey and husband Dick, Owendale, Michigan, Markus Furness and wife Renae, Fairbanks, Alaska, Lorena Shelton and husband Jerry, Stonewall, Ricky Reese and wife Suki, Marlow, OK, Billy Reese and wife Toni, Sebewaing, Michigan, Bennie Reese and wife Doreen, Bad Axe, Michigan, and Allen Reese and wife Dana, Achille, OK; a sister, Margaret Thane, Caro, Michigan; and a brother, Cecil Furness, Cottonton, Alabama; 42 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Coleen, an infant son, Steven, and a daughter, Sharon.

Bearers will be Ricky Reese, Bennie Reese, Allen Reese, Mark Furness, Jerry Shelton, Ronnie Reese and Logan Furness.

The family says those who wish may make memorials in memory of Ed to Halo Hospice, 1298 N. Hills Shopping Center, Lonnie Abbott Blvd., Ada, OK 74820.
