EDNA GRAHAM
TULSA-Services for Edna A. Hambleton Graham 91, Tulsa, formerly of Ada, are 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Rollow Chapel of the First United Methodist Church in Ada, Rev. David Daniel will officiate.
Mrs. Graham died Sunday, June 19, 2011 at a Tulsa care center. She was born January 3, 1920 at Edna, Kansas to Ernest A. and Josie Rhodes Hambleton. Her father was employed with Carter Oil Company and each time a new field opened in Oklahoma, the family would move. Consequently, she attended 10 different schools prior to the family's move to Fittstown in 1935.
She graduated from Ada High School in 1937 and then attended Oklahoma College for Women (now USAO) where she was a music major with a soprano voice. She married E. Harold Graham in May, 1941 – one week before she graduated with honors. After Harold's service in WWII, they settled in Ada and raised their three sons. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Ada for 66 years, for over 40 of those years she spent singing in and directing the choir.
Edna worked for the Pontotoc County DHS office as an Adoptions Specialist from 1971 until retiring in 1986. In 2001, she moved to University Village Retirement Center in Tulsa. There, she compiled forty years of journaling into her life story which she then published. In October 2010, she moved to Broken Arrow.
Survivors include three sons, Larry Graham of Boulder, CO, Philip Graham and wife Gayle of Tulsa, and Steven Graham and wife Vicky of Oklahoma City; her grandchildren, Kevin Graham and wife Sarah of Ewing, NJ, Dr. Christina Graham and husband Jason Merryman of Seattle, WA, and Allison Caggiano and husband Andrew of Bluffton, SC.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Harold Graham; siblings, Edgar Hambleton, Trixie Lucy, and Martha Compton.
