ED CAVENER

ADA-Services for Edmond C. Cavener, 89, Ada, are 11:00 A.M. Monday at the Criswell Chapel, Rev. Ray Talbott, Rev. Joe Dixon and Floyd Holman will officiate. Burial follows at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Cavener died on Thursday, August 4, 2011, at an Ardmore Veterans Center. He was born May 25, 1922, in Stratford, Oklahoma to Ernest C. and Cecile Lamb Cavener. He attended Parish Chapel grade School, graduated from Vanoss High School, and attended East Central State College. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII as a Corporal, serving in the Aleutian Islands. He received the Bronze Star and Combat Infantryman Badge. He was an insurance agent with Prudential Life Insurance Company. He was a longtime active member of Oak Avenue Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon since 1961, taught a Men's Sunday School class for 15 years, and sang in the choir for 35 years. He was a member of and taught Life Underwriters Training Course and helped organize and was a charter member of Ada Life Underwriters.

He married Mildred L. Painter on November 23, 1945. She preceded him in death on December 6, 2006, in Ada.

Survivors include son, Larry Cavener and wife Elaine, Overland Park, Kansas; sister, Mozelle Cavener Rogers, Kennington, California; grandchildren, Natalie Cavener, Louisburg, Kansas; Robin Schraden and husband Jody, Leawood, Kansas; Jeff Cavener and wife Debbie, Marietta, Oklahoma; Vonda Heaslet and husband Roy, McAlester, Oklahoma; and Jared Cavener, McAlester, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Bill Painter, Ada; nephews, Butch Painter and wife Jan, Ada; and David Painter and wife Debbie, Ada; nieces, Debbie Abel and husband Glen, Wewoka; and Pat Rogers, Kennington, California; and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 sons, Ron Cavener and Tim Cavener. Special thanks to his nephew, Butch Painter, for his devotion to his care.

Bearers are David Painter, Glen Gouge, Ernie Staggs, Ron Taylor, John Ryan and Ed Smith. Honorary bearers are Bill Timothy, Hobert Robinson, David Eidson and Dennis Story.
