EDITH SUTTON
MOORE-Services for Edith Rachel Phillips Sutton, 92, of Moore, formerly of Ada, are 10:00 A.M. Saturday at Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Church, 4800 E. Franklin Road, in Norman, Rev. Charles Bigger officiating. Burial follows at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Francis at 2:00 P.M. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Friday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Sutton passed away October 22, 2009, in Moore after a lengthy illness. She was born July 16, 1917 to Ely and Effie West in Francis, OK. She attended school at Cedar Grove and Francis, and worked at the Francis School Cafeteria. She also worked at the Railroad Café. Edith married Woodrow Phillips in 1935 in Ada, OK. They were blessed with one daughter, Ann. After Woodrow's death in 1971, Edith married Al Sutton in 1974 and they were happily married until his death in 1993. At that time, Edith moved from Ada to Moore to live with Ann and husband Delbert. She was active at the Moore Senior Center and had many friends there. Edith was a life-long Free Will Baptist, attending Cedar Grove, Ada, Moore and Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Churches.
Edith was preceded in death by parents, Ely and Effie West; husbands Woodrow Phillips and Al Sutton; brothers, Troy, Roy and Orvel; and step-daughter, Roberta Lewis. She is survived by daughter, Ann Wheeler and husband Delbert of the home; granddaughter, Gina Scott and husband Dale; great grandsons Brian Scott and wife Alisa, and Andy Scott and wife Jennifer; and great-great granddaughter, Chelsea Ann, all of Moore. She is also survived by a sister, Virgie Jones of Owasso; 5 step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Edith was also eagerly anticipating the arrival of twin great-great grandchildren next spring.
Bearers are Andy Scott, Brian Scott, Dale Scott, Brad Wells, Josh Jones and Jonathan Jones. Honorary bearers are Don West, Lonnie West, David Jones, Willie White, Dub Wheeler and Buddy West.
