LEON THOMPSON
ADA-Services for Drexel Leon Thompson, 76, of Ada, are 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Dub Tolliver and Ron West will officiate. A private family burial will precede the service at 9:00 a.m. at New Bethel Cemetery in Byng.
Mr. Thompson died Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at his home. He was born August 20, 1936 in Ada, Oklahoma to James Owen and Minnie Jewell Henry Thompson. He lived in this area all his life and graduated from Byng High School in 1954. He received a Bachelors and Master's Degree from East Central University.
He married Margie Whitaker. She preceded him in death in 1993. He later married Storm Strickland on October 20, 1996. Mr. Thompson was a teacher and coach. He taught at the Pleasant Grove High School in Seminole County from 1963 – 1970 and later at the Sasakwa High School from 1970-1991. Mr. Thompson served in the National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Storm Thompson, of the home; his step-children, Darren Calaway and wife Sherri, Ada, Blayne Calaway and wife Twila, Ada, Guy Calaway, Tulsa, Danny Calaway and wife Dana, Ada, Jay Duty and wife Susan, Inola, and Ladd Duty and wife Sherry, Tyrone; a brother, Donald Thompson and wife Mary Lou, Ardmore; and nine step-grandchildren, Leah and Paul Calaway, Stephen Calaway, Dustin Calaway, Colton Calaway, Becka Calaway, Blair Duty, Chance Duty and Katie Lotspiech.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Pauline Piccola; and two brothers, Norman Thompson and Ernest Thompson.
Honorary bearers will be Ron West, Bob Smith, Leon Brown, Denver Johnson, Gene Myers, Brent Walden, Winfred Harjo, Harry "Slick" Factor, George "Bones" Factor, Wayne Chronister, Kenneth Sliger, James Mouser, Quinton Osborn, B. J. Echard, and all his former students and players.
