Doy Lee Battles
ADA-Services for Doy Lee Battles, 89, of Ada are 1:00 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2nd at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Bud Ross will officiate. Burial will follow at the Coalgate Cemetery. The Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
He was born at Wardville, OK on April 19, 1926 to James E. and Walsie L. Akin Battles and passed away Sunday, September 20, 2015 at his home.
He attended elementary school at Mowdy and Nixon and graduated from Coalgate High School in 1944. He immediately entered the Army, training at Little Rock, AR and Hattiesburg, MS. He then served in Germany from 1944 to 1946.
After leaving the Army in 1946, he attended East Central University in Ada until 1948 when he re-enlisted in the Army. He then served in the Korean War and was discharged in 1951. He worked for Phillips Petroleum Company for 32 years, retiring in 1987.
Doy married Fadelma L. Miller in 1947. She preceded him in death in 1997. He later married Diane Kay Sundquist Smith July 18, 1998 in Ada.
His hobbies included square dancing and calling. Doy was an accomplished vocalist and musician. He enjoyed building hot rods, camping, flying airplanes and sea shelling. He was a member of Central Church of Christ in Ada and volunteered for the Ada Senior Citizen Chickasaw Nation.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Fred, Wofford and Homer; two sisters, Gladys Patrick and Wilma Bayless; and his wife, Fadelma.
Survivors include his wife, Diane, of the home; two sons, James and Jay Battles; as well as two step-sons, Nathan and David Smith; numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank his favorite niece, Jo "Dolly" Sexton for her wonderful support.
Bearers will be Jerry Battles, David Battles, Don Battles, Nathan Smith and David Smith.
