Douglas "Doug"
M. Busha
December 17, 1945 – December 2, 2022
Services for Douglas "Doug" M. Busha will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Criswell Funeral Home in Ada, ОК.
He was born on December 17, 1945, in Wayne, MI to parents, Vincent and Amelia (Sherman) Busha. He passed on December 2, 2022, at the age of 76. He is leaving behind his life partner Travis of Ada, OK, and a brother, Ted Busha of MI.
Doug grew up in Howell, MI and graduated from Howell High School. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the Navy in 1965. Doug was a well decorated Navy serviceman having received the following honors: Bronze Star of Valor, Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Service Medal and Combat infantry Badge. It was during his naval career; a program had emerged that allowed him to begin training in the medical field. Doug earned his physician's assistant degree from The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in 1981.
After his retirement from the Navy in 1987, he began working as a locum-tenant. This allowed Doug the opportunity to travel around the country providing healthcare services to under-served populations, which led him to working in Native American communities.
Doug eventually moved to Ada, OK, where he began his employment in the urgent care department at the Carl Albert Indian Healthcare Facility. Later, he was recruited to work in the diabetes care center, where he provided educational and medical services for over 13 years until he retired in 2013.
As his patients can attest, Doug had a special way of relating health education in a meaningful way that encouraged them to improve their health and quality of life. He also made a positive impact upon the lives of his colleagues as well. His work ethic was inspirational, from leading the groups walks at diabetes camp with his famed walking stick, to accepting last minute add-ons to his patient list. He always encouraged those around him to do better for themselves. Doug was a great friend and mentor to many.
One of Doug's favorite past times was working outdoors. He had a special talent for creating a multitude of diverse mini gardens in his backyard. Some of his other hobbies included: traveling and exploring new places, cooking, art, and building things with wood.
