DORCIE BATES
PERKINS – Services for Dorcie Vinita Bates, 85, of Perkins, formerly of Ada are 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Baptist Church, Dr. Rusty Fuller and Rev. David Gray will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery in Ada.
Mrs. Bates died Saturday, October 19, 2013 in Guthrie. She was born July 12, 1928 southwest of Stillwater to Albert R. and Emma A. Sumner Bostian. She attended grade school at Willow Springs, Progress School, and later Coyle, Stillwater and graduated from Perkins High School in 1946.
Dorcie married Frank Bates on June 2, 1948. He preceded her in death on August 29, 2013. They were married 65 years. She moved with her husband Frank and their son Roger in 1950 to Wetumka after Frank's graduation from Oklahoma State University. During the years at Wetumka Lanny and Terry Bates were born and the family moved 5 years later and in the coming years to Anadarko, Waurika, Ardmore and Ada, Oklahoma.
Mrs. Bates was a homemaker and very devoted to her family. She enjoyed her beautiful Iris garden, vegetable garden and working outside. She loved photography and always wanted to "just remember the day" taking her family pictures. Mrs. Bates was a longtime member of Trinity Baptist Church where she served as Sunday school teacher for the six year olds for many years.
Survivors include her sons Roger Bates and Gayla of Perkins and Lanny Bates of Noble; her grandchildren Shana Davis and husband Kelly of Owasso, Jared Bates and wife Liz of Stillwater, Landon Bates of Noble, Audra Bates Carlisle and husband Kyle of Portland, OR, and David Bates of Ada; her great-grandchildren, Alex and Anistyn Davis, and Bennett Bates Carlisle; four nieces and families of Tulsa, Shirley Mobley and husband Robert, Elaine Glass and husband Ralph, Lisa Calhoun and husband Donnie, and Cindy Cundiff.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frank on August 29, 2013, her son, Terry Bates in 1987; her parents Albert R. and Emma A. Bostian; her only sister Dorothy Cundiff and her husband Junior; and two nieces Diana Paddock and Peggy Campbell.
Bearers will be Jared Bates, Landon Bates, Kelly Davis, Ralph Glass, Robert Mobley and Jerry Black.
