Donald Johnson

Services for Donald Joe Johnson, 87, of Allen, are 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 31, 2026, at Allen First Baptist Church; Rev. Steve Hall and Rev. Chad Kaminski will officiate. Burial will follow at Allen Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Allen Chapel.

Mr. Johnson passed away Thursday, August 27, 2026, in Tishomingo. He was born on December 29, 1938, in Tupelo to Harley and Sallie Anderson Johnson.

On August 13, 1963, he married Judith Kay Carleton. She preceded him in death on February 14, 2019.

For more than 50 years, he was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Allen, where his love for his faith and his church family remained an important part of his life. His commitment to his community extended far beyond the church. As a longtime educator and coach, he dedicated much of his life to encouraging, teaching, and shaping the lives of young people. He was a mentor, a leader, and someone who genuinely cared about the people entrusted to him.

He also knew how to enjoy the simple things in life. He loved sitting down over a good cup of coffee with his buddies, sharing conversation, stories, laughter, and the fellowship that comes from long-term friendships. Those moments were special to him and to the friends who were fortunate enough to share them.

He had a generous heart and was known as a gift giver. Giving brought him joy, whether it was a thoughtful present, a kind word, his time, or simply making someone feel remembered and loved. He had a way of making people feel special.

And above all, he loved Allen, Oklahoma. It was more than a place to him, it was home. He loved its people, its community, and the life he built there. His presence became part of the fabric of Allen, and his absence will be deeply felt by the many people whose lives he touched. His family wanted to extend their heartfelt thanks to the people of Allen for their love and care.

His legacy will live on through the students he taught, the athletes he coached, the friends who shared countless cups of coffee with him, his church family, and all those who experienced his generosity and love. He gave much of himself to others, and he leaves behind a life remembered with gratitude, affection, and respect.

He was a teacher, a coach, a faithful servant, a generous giver, a loyal friend, and a beloved part of the Allen community. Most of all, he was a man who made a difference—and he will be missed.

Survivors include his son, Sam Johnson, of Allen; daughter, Deanese Grigsby and husband, Kevin, of Joshua, TX; grandchildren, Brock Grigsby and wife, Bailey; Gage Grigsby and wife, Bella, Taylor Blanden and husband, Sam, and Tiffany Upshaw and husband, Brayden; and great grandchildren, Baker Grigsby and Sadler Grigsby.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Johnson; his parents; brothers, Earnest Johnson, Bill Johnson, Ed Johnson, Denver Johnson, and Floyd Johnson; and sisters, Helen Jennings, Wanda Skaggs, Maxine Linker, and Betty Raunikar.

Bearers are Keith Jennings, Monty Skaggs, Greg Skaggs, Danny Skaggs, Phillip Johnson, Mark Johnson, and Josh Black.
