David Scates
Services for David Lynn Scates, 69, of Ada are 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Richard Dickerson will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 Thursday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mr. Scates passed away Saturday, April 28, 2018 at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was born August 2, 1948 at Ada to Sherman and Beulah Mae Tate Scates. He lived in this area all his life. He attended Latta, Egypt and Glenwood grade schools and graduated from Ada High School. He attended Seminole Junior College.
Mr. Scates worked with several home builders in the construction of homes in the area. He was a disabled veteran. He served in the Vietnam War, from October 1967 until being honorably discharged May 1969. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Cushman Club.
David enjoyed traveling with the Cushman Club and playing cards and dominoes. He was an avid collector of "junk". David loved spending time with his family and friends, spinning yarns and sharing stories. Friday nights is ALWAYS Family Night at Pegg's.
Survivors include a sister, Peggy Ayres and husband Bill of Ada; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Scates of Phoenix, AZ; his nephews and nieces, Steven, Ron and Mike Scates, all of Ada, and Bob Black and wife Debbie, Dalhart, TX, Penny Bush and husband Wayne, Ada, Patty Bowers and husband Don, Ada, Robin Hansen, Ada and Jennifer Chubinsky and husband George, Phoenix, AZ ; several great-nephews and great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father, Sherman Scates, March 11, 1983; mother, Beulah Scates, October 13, 1997; two brothers, Paul Scates, March 13, 1995 and Thurman Scates, December 4, 2014; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Scates, April 20, 2012.
Bearers will be his nephews, Mike, Ron and Steve Scates, Wayne Bush, Don Bowers and Mark Bush.
The family says those who wish may make memorials to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
