ADA-Services for David Don "Peep" Jackson, Sr., 75, of Ada, will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 4, 2013 at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Steve Gardner will officiate. Burial will follow at the New Bethel Cemetery in Byng. The Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m Sunday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mr. Jackson died Friday, November 1, 2013 at an Ada hospital. He was born September 28, 1938 in Ada Oklahoma, the youngest of 12 children born to Eddie Martin and Daisy Mae Bass Jackson. He attended Jones Chapel Grade School and both Horace Mann School and Latta Schools.
At 17 years of age Mr. Jackson joined the US Navy, serving 20 years and retiring in 1974. After retirement from the Navy, Mr. Jackson and his wife owned several trucks which were leased to Melton Truck Lines, driving cross country as a team for 8 years and earning a "Top 10" belt buckle. After coming off the road he returned to Ada to work 10 years for Call A Ride Public Transit, winning the Public Transit Rodeo for 3 consecutive years.
Mr. Jackson and his wife were active volunteers in their church and communities and enjoyed dressing up to help children's causes. They were known as "Bubbles" and Bang-Bang" the clowns and Mr./Mrs. Santa Claus. They also served as cast members of "The Great Passion Play" in Eureka Springs, Arkansas for 7 seasons. The winter seasons were spent driving a tour bus out of Rockport, TX. He was also a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church.
Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jo Helen "Jodi" Jackson, one daughter, Donna Jackson Rodebush, Ada; two sons, David D. Jackson, Jr. and his wife Dawn, of Clovis NM, and Dennis W. Jackson and his wife Kathy, of Burnsville, NC; nine grandchildren, Daniel Jackson and his wife Sarah, of Eureka Springs AR, Jesse Jackson, of Ada, Rock Rodebush and wife Jamie, of Ada, Kassie Yon and husband Billy, of Jacksonville NC, Matt L. Rodebush and wife Kami, of Edmond OK, Jamie Jackson Kinder and husband Matt, of Tulsa OK, Kaitlyn J. Jackson, U.S. Army, and twins Jessica L. Jackson and Jeremiah D. Jackson, of Clovis, NM; 10 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.
Pall Bearers will be grandsons, Daniel Jackson, Jesse Jackson, Rock Rodebush, Matt Rodebush, Jeremiah Jackson, and Matt Kinder.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund.
