Claudia Joyce Underwood

Private memorial services for Claudia Joyce (Ashworth) Underwood, 81, of Ada will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Underwood passed away Sunday, August 30, 2020 at her home. She was born January 29, 1939 at Stonega, VA to Ed Winston and Letha Richardson Ashworth. She graduated from Big Stone Gap High School in Virginia. She graduated from East Central University with a Bachelor's Degree in English.

She married Chet Underwood in 1964 in California. Mrs. Underwood had worked as a Wire Editor for the Ada Evening News and was of the Assembly of God faith. Mrs. Underwood enjoyed cooking family dinners and also writing.

Survivors include her husband, Chet Underwood, of the home; her daughters, Amber Underwood, Christi Underwood Smith and husband Kevin and Marijo Underwood Wyche and husband Byron, all of Ada; her grandchildren, Sidnie Underwood, Greyson Smith, Gryphon Smith, Niles Wyche and wife Leah, Perrin Wyche, and Chuck Wyche, all of Ada; three great-grandsons, Finn Wyche, Atlas Wyche and Corbin Wyche, all of Ada; nephews, Anthony Ashworth, Ada and Allen Brice and Joe Brice, both of Tennessee; a great-nephew, Iann Ashworth, Ada; and a family friend, Dana Shannon, Ada.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Glenita Ashworth Brice and Verenia Ashworth.
