Charlie Nichols

Charlie Derrell Nichols, 74, of Stonewall, OK went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 3, 2017. Charlie was born March 7, 1942 in Meridian, Texas to Otis Earl "Jack" Nichols and Nellie Elizabeth Paulson Nichols.

He graduated from Meridian High School in 1960 where he was active in athletics playing Football, Basketball, Baseball and running Track. After graduation Charlie joined the Texas National Guard and served for nine years.

On September 28, 1961 Charlie met the love of his life Bobbie Rae Morris when he followed her school bus as it passed through the Meridian town square after a football game. In the summer of 1962 Bobbie moved to Valliant, Oklahoma with her family and Charlie faithfully made the trip every weekend to see her.  The couple married two weeks after her high school graduation on June 15, 1963 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Charlie worked in the lumber business and the oilfield for many years. His job as a woodworking supervisor at Clopay brought Charlie and his family from Valliant, Oklahoma to Stonewall, Oklahoma where he resided until he passed.  He retired in 2007.

Charlie had two daughters, Melanie Kay and Charla Michelle who he loved unconditionally. He loved to surprise them and often took them to the Mesquite Rodeo or to see his favorite baseball team, the Texas Rangers.

Charlie also had six grandchildren. He followed them all over the state watching them in their sporting events and their 4-H and FFA activities.  He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed cheering on the Cowboys.  He loved to tailgate and was proud to be an OSU Papa.

Charlie was an active member at First Baptist Church of Stonewall. He enjoyed hosting Sunday School Class parties and church socials.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Nellie. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Bobbie, two daughters, Melanie Gollihare and husband Todd of Kellyville, OK and Charla King and husband Jonathan of Konawa, OK; six grandchildren, Brette Gollihare of Norman, OK, Bailey Stacy and husband EzraJames of Enid, OK, Brenna Gollihare of Stillwater, OK, Kellan King, Kayden King, and Kylar King of Konawa, OK; two sisters, Ruth Ermis of Fort Worth, Texas and Joyce Swank of Waco, Texas, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Stonewall First Baptist Church. The Rev. Richard Dickerson will officiate. Burial will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Meridian Cemetery in Meridian, Texas. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 7 th at Criswell Funeral Home in Ada, OK.

Bearers will be Dan Olson, Stephen Swank, Paul Swank, John Tapley, Gabriel Daves, and Shannon Daves. Honorary bearers are Ricky Olson, Freddie Olson, Andy Anderson, and the men's Sunday School Class at Stonewall First Baptist Church.
