CAROLYN TOWNSEND
ADA-Services for Carolyn Jean "Brockett" Townsend, 66, Ada, are 2:00 P.M. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Rev. Claud Baltimore officiating.
Mrs. Townsend died on Thursday, August 14, 2008, at a local hospital. She was born February 16, 1942, in Decatur, Illinois, to Norris Hill Brockett and Justine Alvina Karich Brockett. She graduated from high school at Mattoon, Illinois. She graduated from Eastern Illinois University at Charleston, Illinois, in 1964 with a B. S. in Education and received her Master's Degree in Education from East Central University in 1990. She moved to this area in 1977 from LaPorte, Indiana.
Mrs. Townsend taught high school English at Bement, Illinois, from 1964-1968; as Motherhood and Domestic Engineer, Urbana, Illinois 1968-1976; Real Estate Sales Associate at Evans Realty in 1976; Real Estate Broker Associate at Evans Realty from 1977-1987; and taught English at Lexington High School in Lexington, Oklahoma, from 1987-1992. She began managing rental property in Ada in 1979, and was property manager for Townsend Properties from 1992 until the present. From 2000 until the present time, she was co-owner of Townsend's Bottle Shop in Ada, OK, wine, spirits, beer, voted Ada's favorite for 5 years. She also served as First Vice President of Oklahoma Retail Liquor Association.
She married LeRoy Townsend on February 15, 1991.
She is survived by her husband, LeRoy Townsend, of the home; a son, Ben Lowry, Ada; a daughter, Robin Pfeffer and her husband Paul, Richmond, Virginia; grandchildren, Nate, Matthew and Erin; step-children, Pam Townsend, Ada; and Paula Hodges, Ada; two step grandchildren, Heath Hodges, Ada; and Taylor Hodges, Ada; a brother, Richard Brockett and his wife Sarah, Peoria, Illinois; a niece, Kathy Shoemaker; a sister, Lois McCloud and her husband John, Hattiesburg, Mississippi; and a nephew, Brian McCloud.
Bearers are Frank Shanklin, Jack Hoover, Jack Witherow, Bud Blackburn, Duard Thomas, Bill Chapman, Todd Allen, and Stuart Ronald. Honorary bearers are Fred Pfeffer, Tonie Waller, Max Hibbard, Tom Willsher and Keith Hildreth.
