Services for Carolyn Mae James, 85, of Ada, are 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Morris Memorial; Kerri McDonald and Dr. Jeff Williams will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Ms. James passed away Monday, June 15, 2026, in Sulphur. She was born February 25, 1941, in Ada, to Lee and Simmie Cooper Swanson.
She was a member of Morris Memorial Baptist Church. She taught the Joy Sunday school class for many years.
Ms. James dedicated 49 years of service to the Latta School District, where she touched the lives of countless students, staff, and families through her hard work, kindness, and commitment to education.
She found great joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved attending ball games, playing cards with family and friends, and cheering from the stands as her grandchildren competed in sports. Some of her happiest moments were spent supporting and encouraging her grandchildren, celebrating their accomplishments, and creating treasured memories with those she loved most.
She will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her dedication to her community, and the warmth and love she shared with everyone around her.
Survivors include her son, Danny James and wife, Cathy, of Ada; daughter, Tamra Abney and husband, Teddy, of Ada; nine grandchildren, Dillon James, Caitlyn Buck, Scout James, Zachary Hooser, Rio Aguilar, Sierra Shivers, Madison Lamirand, Maebree Morrison, and Tucker Abney; and 24 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Terry Joe James.
Bearers are Tucker Abney, Dillon James, Scout James, Jordan Buck, Phillip Lamirand, and Isaac Morrison.
