DWAIN STEWART
ROFF, OK-Private family services will be held for Carl Dwain Stewart, 76, of Roff
Mr. Stewart died Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at a Dallas, TX hospital. He was born January 20, 1936 northeast of Roff, Oklahoma to Carl and Christine Crowder Stewart. He attended Roff grade schools and graduated from Roff High School in 1954. He continued his education at East Central University in Ada, graduating in 1958 with a BS degree and a master's degree in 1962.
Dwain taught and was principal in the Arkansas City School System, Arkansas City, Kansas for a number of years. He started his teaching career in 1958. He taught fifth grade for one year and then sixth grade for two years at Roosevelt before becoming teacher and principal at Pershing. After three years he was assigned principal at Pershing and Roosevelt. He later became principal at Jefferson and C-4. He retired from Jefferson in 1999 after 41 years in education as teacher and principal. His most memorable year was his second when he had four doctors' students, a federal judge's son, and a city judge's daughter in his sixth grade class.
He married Velda Faye Hefler on June 30, 1962. After retiring, he and his wife moved back to Roff. He was deeply involved in Ark City Kansas Schools as well as the Roff Schools. Mr. Stewart served as the treasurer of the Roff Scholarship Fund and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Velda Stewart, of the home; a son, Darin Stewart and wife Tiffaney of Frisco.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a twin brother, Paul Dwight Stewart; and an infant son, Paul Dwain.
The family says those who wish may make memorials to the Roff Educational Enrichment Foundation (REEF). This foundation provides scholarships for graduating seniors.
