BUDDY BUCHANAN

MCALESTER-Services for Buel LaRoy "Buddy" Buchanan, 80, McAlester, formerly of Ada and Allen, are 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. David Gray will officiate. Burial will follow at Allen Cemetery.

Mr. Buchanan died Thursday, December 27, 2007 at his home in McAlester. He was born February 18, 1927 at Ada, Oklahoma to Roy Lee and Ona Whitehead Buchanan. He attended Hayes Elementary and Ada schools.

He married Nelma Lee Donathan on April 2, 1968. Mr. Buchanan was a U. S. Postal Carrier for the Ada office from 1945 –1946, a carrier for the Oklahoma City Post Office for 10 years, and retired in 1968 from the U. S. Agriculture Department after many years of service. Mr. Buchanan was a Baptist and he had served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He received the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation of Japan medal.

Survivors include his wife, Nelma Buchanan, of the home; two sons, David L. Laster and wife Kay, Edmond, and Charles V. Laster, Edmond; a step-son, Robert Hawkins; a sister, Betsy Buchanan Gilmore, Allen; a brother, Merle B. Buchanan, Grisley Flats, California; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Bearers will be David Laster, Charles Laster, Roy Gilmore, Owen Gilmore, David Gilmore, and Skye Garcia. Honorary bearers will be Jack Bryant, Bob Triplett, Lou McGill, Charles McGill, Dwight Kerns, Billy Putnam, Donnie Hightower, N. B. Curtner, and Billy Daniels.
