Bro. David L. Fortner
Graveside services for Bro. David Lee Fortner, 78, of Canton, TX are 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, near Lula. Charles Teel and Bro. David Wayne Fortner will officiate.
Bro. Fortner went to be with the Lord Friday, January 8, 2021. He was born March 18, 1942 to James Marvin and Beatrice Fortner. He graduated from Tupelo High School and attended East Central College in Ada and Jacksonville Baptist Seminary in Jacksonville, TX. He married Paula Dowell. They were married for 56 years. Bro. Fortner served in the U. S. Army.
Bro. Fortner pastored many churches in the more than 50 years of ministry including churches in Oklahoma: Big Springs, Rocky Point; churches in Texas: First Baptist, Blooming Grove, Tundra Baptist Church, Canton, Green Pond Baptist, Sulphur Springs, Walnut Springs Bible Baptist Church, Canton, and Black Jack Baptist Church, Kaufman; New Testament Baptist Church, Sullivan, MO; and Antioch Baptist Church, Magnolia, AR.
Survivors include his wife, Paula, of the home; son, David Wayne Fortner and wife Susie, Canton, TX; daughter, Leah Dawn Storey and husband Chris, San Diego, CA; brother, Kenneth Fortner and wife Pat, Oklahoma; sister, Joy Faught and husband Glenn, Oklahoma; his grandson, Lucas Fortner and wife Jessica; his granddaughter, Ashton Reynolds and husband Delton, Yuma, AZ; great-grandchildren, Gaige Fortner, Canton, TX and Hayes Reynolds, Yuma, AZ; his adopted grandson, Braden Burns, Canton, TX; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews and loved ones from years serving in the ministry.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Bobby and Johnny Fortner; brothers, Dennis Fortner and Ellis Fortner; and sister, Patsy Young.
Bearers will be Lucas Fortner, Brad Fortner, Kenny Fortner, Scott Fortner, Travis Fortner, Braden Burns and Keith Teel. Honorary bearers will be R. C. Chaney, Kenneth Fortner, Donald Brooks and Rusty Walker.
