Obituary

Brian Edward Hopkins, age 43, passed away unexpectedly in his home in Oklahoma City on September 5, 2022.  Brian was born in Okeene, OK on December 13, 1978 to Mike Hopkins and Donna Dewitt. He was raised in Ada, Oklahoma by his grandparents, Maurice and Joyce Hopkins. He was the biggest joy in their lives, as just about everything they did revolved around caring for him. This included Maurice imparting on Brian his love of the Ford Mustang! He also inherited his love of the OU Sooners from his dad and they spent countless Saturdays watching football together. Brian's family were active members in the Central Church of Christ, and spoke about their faith often.

Brian attended Francis and Byng schools from kindergarten through the 12 th grade, where he graduated with honors in 1997. He was very involved in his extracurricular activities, and excelled at everything he did.  This included playing trumpet in the band, being a star tennis player at Byng, being chosen to compete at scholastics meets, playing little league baseball and playing the drums. Brian was a phenomenal drummer whose talent was unmatched. After high school he was a member of a few bands that achieved much local success, playing gigs in and around Oklahoma City, and producing a few albums of their own.

After high school, Brian had two sons, Daimon and Daniel, that are now teenagers. They look just like their dad and he loved them very much. Then in 2014, he married the love of his life, Mary, and together they made a home with her three children in Wichita, KS. While in Wichita Brian attended Fort Hayes State University and earned a bachelor's degree in psychology. Eventually, through his job in the insurance industry, they were able to relocate back to Oklahoma. They were excited to be closer to home and became very active in a bowling league where they made many new friends. Brian was quite the bowler and recently bowled a perfect game of 300!

Brian is survived by his wife Mary; their three kids, Shealynn, Nathan, and Lauren; his two sons, Daimon and Daniel; three sisters, Michelle Hopkins, Jessica Glenn, and Tracey Bryant; one brother, Scott Bates; aunts Janet Hopkins Curry, Pamela Dewitt, and Brenda Dewitt; uncle Mark Hopkins; grandmother, Serena Bounds; several cousins; many friends; and his beloved cat, Socks.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike Hopkins and Donna Dewitt Bates; and grandparents Maurice and Joyce Hopkins.

"A father like you is rare, one that's so generous, smart and kind. A father like you is what everyone needs, full of smiles and laughter, always doing great deeds. Nothing can replace a father like you, but when you get to heaven, God will be lucky to have you too."  ~author unknown
