BOOTH DOWNS

FITTSTOWN-Services for Booth Dewey Downs, 87, Fittstown, are 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Mr. Marvin Mitchell and Rev. Chris Brannon will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Criswell Funeral Home.

Mr. Downs died Thursday, November 20, 2008 at a local nursing home. He was born November 25, 1920 at Hugo, Oklahoma to Carl and Eva Darnell Downs. He grew up in the Pauls Valley area and graduated from Union Springs High School in Garvin County. His parents died when he was young and he was reared by his grandmother, Annie Denton Downs. He and his grandmother moved to the Fittstown area in 1944.

He married Grace Veach on December 7, 1946 in Ada, Oklahoma. Mr. Downs was a rancher and worked for Southern Sporting Supply in the early 1960's. He later managed Chief Pallet Company in Roff until his retirement in 1994.

Mr. Downs was a member of the Ada Skeet Club and served as vice-president. He won many honors in local and state competitions. He was also a member of the Fittstown Shade Tree Club.

Survivors include his wife, Grace Downs, of the home; a brother, James Downs, Oklahoma City; an aunt, Pauline Jeffcoat, Blanchard; an uncle, Jack Darnell, Oklahoma City; two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; nieces; nephews; cousins; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandmother, sister and an infant twin sister.

Bearers will be Leonard Daniel, Bob Ramer, Vince Miller, Bob Griffin, Don Boatright, and Lowell Leach. Honorary bearers will be Cotton Wartchow, and the members of the Fittstown Shade Tree Club.
