BONNIE WILKERSON
ADA-Services for Bonnie Delle Wilkerson, 88, Ada, are 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Temple Diehl will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Wilkerson died Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at a local nursing home. She was born October 29, 1922 in Calvin, Oklahoma to T. Randle and Verda Gash Gatlin. She graduated from the Atwood school system in 1939. She continued her education by graduating from the Draughan Business College in Muskogee.
She married Kenneth M. Wilkerson on December 22, 1942. She immediately relocated with him to Dallas, Texas where he was employed. After Kenneth was voluntarily drafted into the U. S. Navy, Bonnie was always able to follow him to all of his duty stations during World War II to Norman, OK, Pensacola, FL, and Daytona, FL.
After World War II ended, they moved to Ada. She immediately became active in the Asbury United Methodist Women's group. She and Kenneth also quickly committed to the lifelong responsibility of raising a family in Ada. As her children developed she actively participated in school Home Room activities, Cub Scout and Girl Scout Den activities, as school play costume designer/seamstress, supported junior league athletics, supported band activities, and other scholastic activities.
Bonnie reentered the workforce in the late 1960's as a bookkeeper for the Sugg Clinic until its closing. She next became a teller at the motor bank of the First National Bank (now Vision Bank). She then worked until retirement in bookkeeping and customer service with KTEN's cable service (now CableOne).
Survivors include her husband Kenneth Wilkerson, of the home; two sons, Ken Wilkerson and his wife Rebecca of Guthrie, and Keith Wilkerson of Ada; one daughter, Katrina Grissom and her husband Doug of Duncan; her grandchildren, Gregory Wilkerson and wife Nicole and great grandchildren Kennedy, Bonnie and Colter of Elgin, TX; Kristi Knierim and husband Jared and great grandchildren Karis and Lark of LaVergne, TN; Joel Grissom and wife Jessica and great grandchildren Graci and Lindi of Duncan; and Mark Grissom of Duncan; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lenny Gatlin; and sisters, Wilma Priest and Reba Miller/McKinzie.
Bearers will be Mark Grissom, Joel Grissom, Gregory Wilkerson, Jared Knierim, Wayne Jones, and John Whelchel.
