April 18, 1931 – February 6, 2024
Bobby Lee Place, age 92, passed away Feb. 6, 2024 at his home near Stonewall, Oklahoma. A graveside service is planned on Saturday, March 23rd, 11:00 A.M. at the Stroud, OK cemetery. Lunch will be provided after the service at D's Specialty House, 507 W 4th St, Stroud, OK.
Bob was born Apr. 18, 1931 to Logan John Place and Martha May Platz Place in Stroud, Lincoln County, OK. Bob and his siblings John, Ruby, Jessee, Dolly and Billy attended and graduated from Stroud High School. Bob had fond memories of his school years and growing up on a farm west of Stroud.
On June 30, 1949 Bob married his childhood sweetheart, Lina June Langley at the First Christian Church of Stroud where both had been baptized. During their 72-year marriage they had nine children. In 1955 Bob and Lina moved with their five daughters from Stroud to Lamar, CO where the remainder of their family was born and raised.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lina June and daughters Debby Jo Place, Jane Place Austin and Linda Place. Bob is also preceded in death by brothers John Samuel (Pauline), Jesse Carlton (Maxine), and sisters Cecile, Ruby Powell (Bob) and Dolly Mashburn (Glenn) and sister-in-law Brenda Place.
Bob is survived by his children Patsy Oxley (Gary), Judy Wittman (Jeff), Bobby Place, Lori Fox Pratt (Larry), Chuck Place (Brenda) and Roger Place (Kim). He is also survived by his brother Billy Place of Quitman, TX. Also surviving are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-greats and nieces and nephews.
While raising his family Bob worked primarily in the oil business and intermittently spent time racing horses and operating a hog facility in Sterling, CO. Upon retiring in 1999 Bob and Lina moved to a rural property near Tuttle, OK. That home was hit by a tornado and the same year they relocated to a ranch near Stonewall, OK where Bob enjoyed may years growing his Limousin cow/calf herd.
