DON BLANKENSHIP
ADA-Services for Billy Don Blankenship, 76, Ada, are 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Southwest Church of Christ, Floyd Kaiser will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Blankenship died Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was born January 13, 1935 near Ada, Oklahoma to Edward and Cecile Vail Blankenship. He attended Pleasant Hill and McLish grade schools and graduated from McLish High School in 1953. He graduated from Okmulgee Tech in December, 1955 with a degree in Auto Mechanics.
He married Ima Jean Bray on June 24, 1960. Mr. Blankenship was employed as a mechanic with Holnam Cement Plant, now Holcim from 1969 until retiring in May, 1997. He was a member of Southwest Church of Christ and had served in the U. S. Army from 1957 until being honorably discharged in 1959.
Survivors include his wife, Ima Jean Blankenship, of the home; two daughters, Teresa Strong and her husband Gary, Ada, and Sheila Cheney and her husband Bill, Idabel; a brother, Charles Blankenship and his wife Rose, Ada; a sister, Carole Davis, Ada; three granddaughters, Rachel Bryan and her husband Brad, Heather Cheney and her fiancé, John Young, and Laura Strong.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, John Davis.
Bearers will be Eugene Cannon, Gene Albright, Morris McGehee, Roy Long, Kent Leach and James Byers. Honorary bearers will be Leo Sims, Bill Hart and Bill Scott.
