Betty Binkley

Services for Betty Charline Binkley, 83, of Ada are 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Asbury United Methodist Church; Dr. Travis Muse will officiate. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Criswell Funeral Home.

Mrs. Binkley passed away Thursday, September 27, 2018 at her home. She was born January 21, 1935 at Bebee, OK to Delbert Leslie and Velma Bee Mackey Duncan. She graduated from Noel High School in Noel, MO, St. John's Hospital School of Nursing in Tulsa and attended classes at East Central University.

She married John Melvin Binkley June 1, 1956. He preceded her in death March 23, 2011. Mrs. Binkley was previously employed at Jan Francis Care Center, Colonial Estate Nursing Home and taught Health Occupations at Byng High School for a few years. She was a Registered Nurse at Valley View Regional Hospital until her retirement in 2000 and then continued part-time. With Iris Sams and Janice Herndon they started and operated the first hospice in Ada – an all-volunteer hospice in Pontotoc County.

She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, a certified Lay Speaker, taught Sunday School for years and was active in local and district Methodist Church activities. She was a Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star 379 in Ada, and Past Mother Advisor for the Order of Rainbow for girls.

Survivors include her five children, Steven Michael Binkley and wife Suzie, Enid, Stephanie Melinda Cates, Ada, Sherry Melisa Jennings, Ada, Johnna Charlene McVeigh and husband Jeff, Okemah and DeAnna Michelle Marshall and husband Charles (Chuck), Houston, TX; her sister, Leslie Axtell and husband Andy, Tulsa; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Delpha Broquet and Patricia Colip; a brother, Harold Duncan; and a grandson, Phillip Gene Branscum.
