FITTSTOWN-Services for Ben W. Hooper, 77, Fittstown, are 11:00 A.M. Friday at Trinity Baptist Church, Danny Stewart officiating. Burial follows at Pontotoc Cemetery in Pontotoc, Oklahoma. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 Thursday evening at Criswell Funeral home.
Mr. Hooper died on Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at a local hospital. He was born February 3, 1934, in Stratford to Claude and Elva Robertson Hooper and attended school in Mountain View, Oklahoma. He co-owned B & D Grocery with Duke Winton and worked for Wickham's Packing House in Ada. He served on the Board of Education for McLish School from 1973-1980. He also worked as a grader driver for Pontotoc County District 3 for over 20 years, retiring in 1996. In 1990 he was presented a Certificate of Appreciation for his work with Pontotoc County District 3 by the Association of County Commissioners of Oklahoma.
He married Lenora Jo "Red" Winton on December 28, 1953. She preceded him in death on March 16, 2002.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda Hooper, Fittstown; and Brenda Biggs and her husband Russell, Plano, Texas; son-in-law, Buster Greenwood, Fittstown; grandsons, Travis Hooper, Fittstown and Jayce Biggs and wife Tanya, Plano, Texas; three granddaughters, Holli Witherington and husband David, Ada; Rebecca Greenwood, Fittstown; and Tegan Biggs, Plano, Texas; 1 great granddaughter, Molly Jones, Plano, Texas; two sisters, Dorothy Johnson, Carnegie; and Jewell Mullimax, Carnegie; and one brother, John Hooper, Del City. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lenora "Red" Hooper; daughter, Vicki Greenwood; parents, Claude and Alva Hooper; three brothers, Homer Hooper, Joe Hooper, and Tom Hooper; and two sisters, Vera Fountain Barrick and Lillian Hooper.
Bearers are Buddy Johnson, Carl Tackett, Vernon Harris, Matt Robertson, Lee Jackson and Marvin Mitchell. Honorary bearers are Wayne Biggs, Buck Crabtree, Bill Scott, James Lackey, Jess Berrie and the Coffee Shop Gang.
