LULA-Services for Beatrice Vera Fortner, 89, Lula are 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Rocky Point Missionary Baptist Church in Lula, her son, Rev. David Fortner will officiate. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Fortner died Sunday, April 24, 2011 at an Ada nursing home. She was born December 6, 1921 near Lula, Oklahoma to David Galloway and Exie May Roach Brooks. She attended Lula schools.
She married James Marvin Fortner on January 4, 1938. He preceded her in death on October 8, 2004. Mrs. Fortner was a homemaker and a cook for Lula and Ahloso schools. She was a longtime active member of Rocky Point Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Fortner and his wife Pat, Lula, David Fortner and his wife Paula, Canton, TX, and Ellis Fortner and his wife Frances, Lula; one daughter, Joy Baker, Ardmore; three sisters, Willie Williams, Ada, Mildred Brisbee, Texarkana, TX, and Doris Teel, Springdale, AR; one brother, Wayne Brooks, Austin, TX; 15 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patsy Young; a son, Dennis Fortner; one brother, R. D. Brooks; and two sisters, Evelyn Treas and Wanda Fowler.
Bearers will be her grandsons, Scott Fortner, Brad Fortner, David Wayne Fortner, Kenny Fortner, Travis Fortner and Clay Young. Honorary bearers will be Daniel Clifford and Scott Ahern.
