RUTHIE BATTS

ADA-Services for Ruthie James Batts, 94, Ada, are 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Dr. Bob Payne will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.

Mrs. Batts died Monday, January 11, 2010 at Kingston, Oklahoma. She was born September 1, 1915 in Oxford, Mississippi to Robert and Grace Franklin Sanders. She and her family moved to Ada from Mississippi when she was an infant, and she attended Irving and Colbert schools.

She married Vascle Lee Hurley on January 3, 1933. He preceded her in death. She later married Haskell Batts on April 18, 1962. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Batts was a hostess for the First United Methodist Church for 25 years. She volunteered with the Nutrition Center, the Ada Campfire Girls and the American Red Cross and she was an active member of Colbert Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Wanda Mae Gray and husband Cecil, Wheatland, CA, Beverly Ann Boles, Noble, and Joan Lenox and husband Floyd, Mead; two brothers, Jack Kay Sanders, Pontotoc and Charles E. "Monk" Sanders, Ada; one sister, Beulah Bratcher, Ada; 25 grandchildren; 58 great grandchildren; and 45 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Daryl Lee Hurley and Jimmie Lynn Hurley, brothers, Jack Dempsey Sanders, James Emitt Sanders and Robert Sanders, and sisters, Marie Hutchings, Edith Maggie and Geneva Sanders.

Bearers will be Ken Kerrihand, James Sheppard, Sam Jewell, Stanley Sanders, Dewayne Sanders, and Craig Larson.
