Gus Gaar, Jr.
Services for Augustus George "Gus" Gaar, Jr., 93, of Stratford are 12:00 Noon, Wednesday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Mr. Wayne Winn will officiate. Burial will follow at Swan Hill Cemetery in Ada. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mr. Gaar died Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Cornerstone Hospital in Shawnee. He was born March 21, 1922 to Augustus George Gaar, Sr. and Gladys Faye Griffith Gaar. He graduated from Horace Mann High School in Ada and the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
He married Helen Kantoupas September 11, 1949 at Bartlesville, OK. She preceded him in death May 30, 1998. Mr. Gaar was an electrical engineer contractor with the U. S. Navy until his retirement. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Ada for over 50 years. He served in the U. S. Army Air Force as a Staff Sergeant with the 8th Weather Squadron during World War II.
Survivors include a son, Ashley Gaar; a dear friend, Yuvon Russell; his nephews, Dennis Bates, Byron Bates, Kenneth Gaar and Keith Gaar; and his nieces, Kathy Billingsley and Karla Gaar-Humphreys.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen Gaar; a brother, Basil Gaar; and sisters, Iris Gaar and LaVerne Bates.
Bearers will be members of the Ada Kiwanis Club: Claude Bess, Taylor Howard, Bill Chapman, John Floyd, Bill Hill and Tom Criswell.
